A healthy lawn needs to be more than just a patch of grass. A healthy lawn provides a comfortable place to walk, sit or play. Lawn maintenance sounds like yard work when really it is a simple way to improve you home. Just as people judge a book by its cover, so do they judge a home by its lawn.
Mower Blade Height
If you do not have a uniformly green lawn, the problem may actually stem from the height of your mower blades. Improve the color of your lawn by setting the mower blades so that no more than a third of the current height of blades of grass get lopped off.
Fertilizer
Synthetic lawn fertilizers high in nitrogen give a deceptive appearance of a healthy lawn while actually raising the risk of damage due to fungus and insects. Using a slow-acting organic fertilizer is a more effective lawn care tip.
Aeration
Another valuable lawn care tip that improves the effects of watering and more decomposition more efficient is aeration. Aeration is simply a fancy word for making holes in the grass. Do it with athletic spikes or even a stick sharpened at one end.
Watering
Match the watering of your lawn to the effects of evaporation. Avoid watering during or immediately after the hottest part the day to beat the effects of evaporation. If a healthy green lawn is what you really desire, then start each day off in the morning by watering the grass.
Patching
Cut out a small area of a damaged lawn and replace it with a matching piece taken from the section that isn’t highly visible. Tamp down both segments in their respective areas the result is an instant improvement of an unsightly flaw.
Weed Killing
One very easy way to kill off the problem of weeds is to stop parking vehicles on the grass. Weeds are more likely to spring from compacted soil than loose soil. Parking your car in the garage or on the driveway is actually a form of lawn maintenance.
